Tell me a story

I’m thinking of writing some short stories, based around one character. I haven’t written any fiction since school, so I don’t really know how to start, but I made some notes today.

Obviously I don’t want to give away any details about my stories yet. I haven’t even decided if I will share what I write. It’s really just an exercise to try to help me cope with my son’s leukaemia.

Anyway, what about if you tell me a story about the sort of main character you would have if you wrote a book? I’ve come up with some questions to get you started. You don’t have to answer them all, just one or two. I know all about my character, so I won’t be stealing your ideas!

• what’s your character’s name?

• how old are they?

• where do they live?

• do they have a partner?

• who is your character’s best friend?

• favourite colour?

• do they have a hobby?

• what’s their dress style?

• is your character based on anyone you know?

I really do hope you can play along, or that I can inspire you to write your own story. Let’s have a conversation in the comments! ✍️

I haven’t written anything since high school! This is very inspirational to start something just for fun. 🙂 I wish you the best at writing your stories. I hope you share them, but it’s understanding if you don’t. Still praying for your son!!

  2. My character’s name is Lucy, and she’s recently deceased. She’s in her early 40’s and was married with two kids who mourn for her now.

I’m writing about her right now in a series on my blog called: Lucy in the Afterlife. Having so much fun, writing about her journey.

Jump in. Start your short stories. Nothing ventured; nothing gained. Don’t over think it. Just do it. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your son. Sending light-n-love and healing thoughts-n-prayers.
